Apple is a green company

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Apple fans usually know the fact that Apple is a company that knows about the effects of pollution and tries to do its best to lower the impact on nature made by toxic substances used in electronic products. Even the boxes of iPod Nano and Shuffle are specially created to have as less material as possible. In a document posted on Apple’s site Steve Jobs mentions some of the measures taken by Apple to use environmental friendly materials. Some aspects regard the fact that Apple has products that comply with EU’s RoHS directive which states restrictions on the use of cadmium, hexavalent chromium and brominated flame retardants compared to other electronic producers that still don’t comply with the directive. Apple also plans to transition its displays on the use of LED technology thus eliminating the use of Mercury and Arsenic, substances that are found in LCD displays.

10% notebook share for Apple in US

Tuesday, May 15th, 2007

During March Apple has got the 5th place on the retail notebook sales with a 9.9% market share finding itself behind Toshiba, HP and Gateway and ahead of Compaq. The elegant and powerful line of notebooks sold by Apple and equipped with Intel processors, the MacBook and MacBoook Pro has propelled Apple in the top 5 notebook producers for the first time in this year.

The results offered by NPD, a well known market research firm also show a decrease of market share in the Apple’s line of audio and video players. The iPod has lost slowly and steady points of share from 72.7% in January to 68.9% in March mainly on the favor of SanDisk which increased it’s market share to 11.2% from 8.9%. Although with an interesting audio product (Zune), Microsoft has kept a constant share on the market having only a slight slice of 2.5%.
