10% notebook share for Apple in US

During March Apple has got the 5th place on the retail notebook sales with a 9.9% market share finding itself behind Toshiba, HP and Gateway and ahead of Compaq. The elegant and powerful line of notebooks sold by Apple and equipped with Intel processors, the MacBook and MacBoook Pro has propelled Apple in the top 5 notebook producers for the first time in this year.

The results offered by NPD, a well known market research firm also show a decrease of market share in the Apple’s line of audio and video players. The iPod has lost slowly and steady points of share from 72.7% in January to 68.9% in March mainly on the favor of SanDisk which increased it’s market share to 11.2% from 8.9%. Although with an interesting audio product (Zune), Microsoft has kept a constant share on the market having only a slight slice of 2.5%.
